Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Maximilian Beier plays into the spotlight against Ukraine
In a warm-up friendly against Ukraine, a German national player was able to increase his chances for the squad at EM 2024. National coach Julian Nagelsmann is pinning great hopes on Maximilian Beier.
The 21-year-old Beier, who has been playing for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim since 2020, convinced with a strong performance on the wing against Ukraine and prepared the winning goal for Florian Wirtz shortly before the final whistle.
Nagelsmann was full of praise for Beier after the game: "He's a very talented player with great speed and technique. He still has a lot of potential, but he's already shown what he can do today."
Beier himself was naturally happy about the coach's praise: "It's a great honor for me to hear that from the national coach. I'll continue to work hard to justify the trust placed in me."
Whether Beier will actually make it into the squad for the European Championships in 2024 remains to be seen. However, with his performance against Ukraine, he has certainly put himself in a good position.
